Had a great time visiting your vibrant property. I was looking to find some variations in soil content between species of fungi. Wish I had more time to explore and poke around for more samples.

Nice to meet you! You are a very friendly and sociable individual!

It is a pleasure to see a central Ontario wetland recognized as something special and turned into a place of learning.
As an MNR conservation officer stationed in Minden for 13 years some time back, I often despaired of ever finding a Haliburton County land-owner who thought of a wetland as anything other than a piece of waste property until it was filled in and “developed” for some human use.
Keep up the good work.

  Dear Mr. Wright,

Thank you for letting 6a and 6b come to your bog and look around and adventure. We all had a great time looking and scooping in the mud and in the water and looking at all of the cool water bugs and all leaches. That was my favourite thing. I had a lot of fun at the pond study was so fun because we could get really muddy. My second favourite thing was the esker walk with you. We all had lots of fun both 6a and 6b

Thank you

Mr.Wright, I had so much fun at the Esker the other week. The highlights were you and the pond. The pond was awesome because I fell in the mud 3 times. You also always had a smile on your face. It’s so cool you let us use your property.
                            Thank You So Much

  Dear Mr. Wright,
Thank you for letting our class visit the fen.  I liked walking in the mud when we collected bugs.  I would never have known what the wetlands are like if we hadn’t visited your place.  I find it interesting.  I thought it was interesting that the native people carried their babies on their backs and used grass for when the baby pees.  Also, how they used mud for first aid.

  Dear, Mr. Wright,

Thank you, for letting us come to your house. We had so much fun going to your pond and catching all sorts of insects. When we were at the pond we got stuck in the mud a lot. It was really fun getting stuck and unstuck. Thank you Mr. Wright for that day we had so much fun being there and doing all the activities.

Thank you so much for that fun time at your wetland. I had so much fun when I went in the bog with mr poropat. We saw soo many neat things and he showed us the coolest plant in the world. I also liked when I went to a different wetland and we were trying to catch some bugs . The funnest time I had was when you took us in the forest and showed us different types of wood and trees . Thank you so muck for that awesome time

  Dear Mr. Wright,

I loved your property. My favourite thing to do was going into the pond. I liked that the best because I liked getting to catch and discovering animals. The fen was awesome because we got to walk on it. The walk was cool because we got to see how old the trees were first. The littlest tree was 150 years that was so shocking.I thought it would be the youngest. I would most likely come back. Thank you for having us on your property.

  Dear Mr. Wright,
Thank you very much for letting us explore your property.  It was really cool! It was cool how we got to walk around the fen. The pond study was my favourite part. I liked all the cool bugs and insects that we found. The part that you took us around was very interesting and I liked all the cool things you taught us about trees, plants and the history of the      fen.

  Dear Mr. Wright,

Thank you, for having Mr. Poropat’s and Mrs. Fould’s grade 6 class to your fen.  What we enjoyed the most was the wet land study because we got really, really muddy and we got to learn about animals that we never heard of before.

Thank you, Mr. Wright very much for trusting us to go on your property and observe. We really enjoyed the walk especially the esker and the fertile wetlands. You have really encouraged us to protect our nature and enjoy it. Also we would love to come back in the summer (with bug suits of course) and finish our tour. Thanks so much.

I’m a 3rd year Ecosystems Management student at Fleming College in Lindsay.  We had the opportunity to come out and explore the wetland and fen on a school field trip.  Although it was very rushed, it was a beautiful site.  I am so looking forward to returning when we have more time to explore everything this unique property has to offer.
Thanks for the great day!

  Hi Don,

just wanted to say thanks again for allowing us to visit your property and do research. I had a great time and much of what I did see was awesome. I was one of the lucky people who made it to the Kettle Lake. I’m actually in the Lake St. picture under your “About Us” section. I’m in the black shirt. Next to me is Amanda, then Andrew, Alysha, Cody and Chris on the right (I believe you wanted to know who was in the picture).

Thanks again!

  Hi Don and Mary,
What a great website!  I thank you SO much for allowing us to visit this special place again this year.  Every time we visit it, we find something new.  This year, we discovered a dragonfly that was new to the county…a Delicate Emerald! That’s now 2 species that occur no where else in Haliburton County (that we know of).
All the best and thanks again for your hospitality.
Ed Poropat

  Dear Don and Mary,
It was a pleasure revisiting your land & the Lochlin Esker via this website’s  Gallery.  The wonderful guided tour you offered  in July 2007 provided us with many insights about nature’s richness in  this unusual Ontario sanctuary.  I hope the Esker can be preserved in its natural state for decades and centuries to come.    Thank you for your hospitality & willingness to share the experience.

Don and Mary – I had no idea!
I was just talking to my mom (Janet) tonight and she told me about what you guys have been doing with your land. So, naturally, I looked it up online. This is great! I wish I had known about this before taking off to explore the ecology of western Canada!
Anyway, when I’m home next I’ll be sure to touch base ’cause I’d love to swing by for a visit.
Cheers and I hope all is well,

Hello Don, Mary and Family. It is great to see the wonderful pictures you have provided and the information about the Lochlin Esker. I miss the area but soon hopefully will be able to enjoy it again spending time in the bush. My brother and I have to get some wood ready for winter so if you hear us sawing and you are out on the trails please feel free to look us up.

You are to be commended Mr and Mrs Wright and Friends for making this piece of history in Minden township and the wonderful website you have created to display it to the world.

I hunted in the old Carpenter fields which I believe abutts your esker for a few years with my fatherinlaw Carl Dugan.

  Hi Lochlin Esker!!

Hope this webpage becomes a valuable tool to promote and educate visitors to this type of rapidly shrinking environment.

I expect this will keep you plenty busy in updating the contents year round.

Compliments to the Engler’s for generating this idea.
